Southern Region Yachting Initiative
The purpose of the Venturing Yachting Initiative is to support
Council Venturing with Sailing and Boating resource, education, training,
and activity material for Venturing leaders and youth.
The Marlinespike Conference is the resource identification and skill introduction
education course of the Yachting Initiative. The Marlinespike Conference
consists of a standard set of education modules and optional education
modules. Councils will select the education modules that are relevant
to their yachting environment. It is planned for the Conference to be
hosted over a series of weekends and will be open to both youth and adult
leaders. The region will introduce the Conference to Council leadership,
as required.

Blue Water Workshops
The Bluewater Workshops are the skills training course of the Yachting
Initiative. The Bluewater Workshops consists of a series of skill (hands
on) training workshops. These Workshops are scheduled to follow the Marlinespike
Conference. Councils will select specific workshops from the Bluewater
Workshops Series that are relevant to meeting its training objectives.
The Bluewater Workshops are expected to be implemented as a weekend training
activity and will be open to both youth and adult leaders. The region
will introduce the Bluewater Workshops to Council leadership, as required.
The Racing Team Program
The Racing Team Program is a region-wide effort for developing competitive
sailing for the Yachting Initiative. This effort will develop a template
and other reference material for hosting competitive events. The Racing
Team Program will emphasize Olympic Class and International Youth boats.
Racing material will be solicited from national, regional, and local sailing
associations. Competitive events can be council or co-council hosted.
The Pastime Activities Guidebook
The Pastime Activities Guidebook is a reference document for developing
recreation sailing for the Yachting Initiative. This effort will develop
a template and other reference material for hosting a recreation event.
The Pastime Activities Guidebook will support both sail/power boating
and will emphasize recreation material solicited from national, regional,
and local yachting associations. Pastime activities can be council or
co-council hosted.
